Extra seats will be available on the charter flight, which leaves Aug. 1 for Glasgow. Return flights will be optional to suit ticket holders. Because so many immigrants to this part of Canada came from Perthshire, people with an interest in genealogical research may be interested in this expedition. It should be noted that research libraries in both Glasgow and Edinburgh are little more than an hour from the Comrie/Crieff area where the Band will be staying. The Scottish weather is usually at its best at this time of year, and the tour coincides with the Comrie Fortnight Festival, as well as the Edinburgh Tattoo and Festival. Travellers will be welcome to those functions where the Band performs, or to follow their own agenda. Note that 1996 marks the 250th anniversary of Culloden and the beginning of the Clearances. The Toronto to Glasgow fare is being negotiated, but will be approximately $700 or $725, including taxes. Any of your members who are interested in this trip should contact the writer for additional information. Submitted by Dave Findlay. Please note that the 1996 membership features an increase to $12. It is not financially feasible to write requesting the extra $2.00, so on the honour system, we hope that you can send it along with a query or some family story that you would like to contribute to the newsletter. Members at a distance could help out others by sharing some of the emigration patterns of your family. Many went to Bruce, Huron & Grey Counties of Ontario in the 1850s and then on to Manitoba and the Dakotas of the US. We also find people went to Minnesota, Kansas, Wisconsin, etc., so let us know if you can add to our information.
